Linguistic note: The language of the first scribe (ff. 1-43) is colorless. The spellings of the second
scribe (f. 43v-end) show a number of spellings of OE
y realized as
u;
‘hur’ for HER is common. These forms suggest the West Midlands. The spelling
‘scho’ for SHE, however, is primarily a Northern form and is found in the
Southwest only in Gloucestershire, Shropshire, and Worcestershire (
